New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a groundbreaking move, the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India has introduced two innovative options for undergraduate studies—Accelerated Degree Program (ADP) and Extended Degree Program (EDP). These reforms aim to provide flexibility in degree completion, catering to diverse learner needs.

Key Highlights:

>Accelerated Degree Program (ADP):

This option is tailored for high-performing students seeking to fast-track their education. A three-year program can be completed in just five semesters, while a four-year program can be finished in six to seven semesters. This pathway benefits those eager to join the workforce or pursue advanced studies quickly.

>Extended Degree Program (EDP):

Designed for students who may need additional time due to personal or academic challenges, the EDP allows for a three-year degree to be extended to four years and a four-year degree to five years. This ensures students can learn at their own pace without compromising the quality of education.

>Shared Features:

1.Uniform Curriculum: Both programs follow the same academic standards and credit requirements as regular degree tracks.

2.Credit Portability: Students can transfer credits between programs through the UGC's Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), facilitating a customized learning journey.

3.Multiple Entry & Exit Points: Learners can pause their studies and return later, earning certificates, diplomas, or degrees at different milestones.

These measures align with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes inclusivity and adaptability in higher education. By implementing these programs, the UGC is transforming the academic landscape to empower students to design their own educational journeys.
