Jammu (The Uttam Hindu): On January 6 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the office of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) in Jammu marking a significant step toward enhancing regional connectivity. This inauguration will coincide with the establishment of the new Jammu Railway Division which aims to improve the transportation network for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and the Pathankot region of Punjab. This move will end the region’s dependency on the Firozpur division for railway operations. Rajiv Kumar Singh the Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) of Jammu shared that the function will take place outside the platform area of the Jammu railway station. Key figures including Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma will also attend the event.

Once approved the division's jurisdiction will be decided. The virtual inauguration by PM Modi is seen as a major step toward this long-awaited development. The establishment of the Jammu Railway Division has been a longstanding demand of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Jammu). Arun Gupta, President of the Chamber expressed gratitude to PM Modi for fulfilling this demand recalling that the Chamber first discussed the matter in 2012. Gupta also thanked Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh for facilitating the meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, which ultimately helped secure the new division.Jammu will now join five other railway divisions under the Northern Railways zone including Delhi Ambala, Lucknow, Moradabad and Firozpur. This development is expected to provide a significant boost to regional tourism and improve the overall railway infrastructure in the area.
