New Chapter in India-Bangladesh Relations: 55th DG-Level Conference Focuses on Border Security

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties, India and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing border security through the 55th Director-General (DG)-Level Conference. The conference, which concluded on February 17, marked a new era of cooperation between the two neighboring countries. The conference was attended by top officials from the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The Indian delegation was led by BSF Director General, Sujoy Lal Thaosen, while the Bangladeshi delegation was headed by BGB Director General, Major General Shakil Ahmed.
During the conference, both sides engaged in comprehensive discussions on various issues related to border security, including the prevention of cross-border crimes, smuggling, and terrorism. They also exchanged views on the effective implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) and the Border Security Plan (BSP). One of the key outcomes of the conference was the agreement to strengthen cooperation in the areas of border security, counter-terrorism, and intelligence sharing. Both sides also decided to enhance the frequency of meetings between the BSF and BGB officials at various levels to ensure effective coordination and cooperation.
"The 55th DG-Level Conference has marked a significant milestone in the journey of India-Bangladesh cooperation," said BSF Director General Sujoy Lal Thaosen. "We are committed to working closely with our Bangladeshi counterparts to ensure the security and stability of our shared border." BGB Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed echoed similar sentiments, stating, "The conference has provided us with an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to enhancing border security and cooperation. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the BSF to address the common challenges we face."
The India-Bangladesh border, which stretches over 4,096 kilometers is one of the most sensitive and porous borders in the world. The two countries have been working closely to strengthen border security and prevent cross-border crimes, including smuggling, human trafficking, and terrorism.
