New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A heated controversy surrounding the National Education Policy (NEP) has sparked a war of words between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The debate revolves around the alleged imposition of a third language, with the BJP and DMK trading barbs.

Amit Shah's Counterattack

Amit Shah has hit back at Stalin's criticisms, suggesting that the Tamil Nadu government should introduce engineering and medical education in Tamil. Shah emphasized that the Narendra Modi government has made provisions for CISF candidates to take exams in their regional languages, including Tamil. Speaking at the 56th Raising Day of CISF at RTC Thakolam in Ranipet, around 70 km from Chennai, Amit Shah said, "I appeal to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to start engineering and medical education in Tamil in the state for the benefit of the students."

Stalin's Rebuttal

Earlier, Stalin had likened the NEP to "an LKG student lecturing a PhD holder," claiming that Tamil Nadu has already achieved many of the policy's goals. Stalin's remarks were seen as a sharp criticism of the NEP, which has been a contentious issue in Tamil Nadu. BJP State President Annamalai Joins the Fray. K Annamalai, BJP state president, accused Stalin of spreading confusion about Hindi being imposed. Annamalai claimed that the party's pro-NEP signature campaign has garnered significant support from the people of Tamil Nadu. "Our online signature campaign has received support from over 2 lakh people within 36 hours, and our on-ground signature campaign is getting tremendous support across Tamil Nadu," Annamalai said in a post on Twitter.

Language Debate Intensifies

The ongoing debate highlights the deepening divide between the BJP and DMK over the NEP. The language issue has become a sensitive topic in Tamil Nadu, with many seeing it as an attempt to impose Hindi on the state. As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how the situation will play out. The NEP has been a contentious issue across the country, with many states expressing concerns over its implementation.
