Mumbai(The Uttam Hindu): Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, has unearthed a major gold smuggling syndicate operating at the city's international airport. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted two consignments of smuggled gold, seizing 12.5 kilograms valued at Rs 9.95 crore.


The gold was concealed in 24 oval-shaped balls of gold dust and hidden in eight pouches. Three staff members and three receivers were detained in connection with the operation. This is part of a bigger crackdown by DRI Mumbai, which has seized around 36 kg of smuggled gold over the last two days, severely crippling the local smuggling network.
