Matrimonial Scam: Man Swindles Woman of ₹60 Lakh with Fake Marriage Promise

Bengaluru(The Uttam Hindu): Bengaluru police are probing a case where a man allegedly tricked a woman he met on the matrimonial site Jeevansathi.com, claiming marriage and later extorting money under false pretenses.
The accused, Shivalingesh, reportedly connected with the woman on the platform in December 2022. As their relationship developed, they agreed to "Matrimonial Scam: Bengaluru Man Swindles Woman of ₹60 Lakh with Fake Marriage Promise"
marry. However, Shivalingesh soon fabricated a story about his mother suffering from a serious brain condition that required immediate treatment. He persuaded the woman to lend him money, and over time, she transferred ₹60 lakh to him in several installments.
Suspicious of his intentions, the woman conducted a background check on Shivalingesh. She uncovered troubling information, including that he had previously deceived others using similar tactics. A search on LinkedIn revealed that he had swindled multiple victims with fabricated stories. Further investigation exposed Shivalingesh’s gambling addiction, with the money used to feed his casino habit, rather than for any medical emergency as he had claimed.
In a surprising twist, Shivalingesh's family confirmed his fraudulent activities. A social media post shared by his relatives warned the public, revealing that he had borrowed money from family, friends, and even banks under false pretenses. They disclosed that he had taken over ₹20 lakh from his family, ₹50 lakh from friends, and loans ranging between ₹30-40 lakh from several banks.
Realizing she had been scammed, the woman filed a complaint with Mico Layout Police Station. However, she later expressed her frustration on social media, claiming that no action had been taken against the accused. Authorities have launched an investigation, and further legal steps are expected soon.
