Lieutenant Vinay Narwal of Karnal Killed by Terrorists Just a Week After His Wedding, While Honeymooning in Pahalgam

Karnal (The Uttam Hindu) : In Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists shot dead Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal (26), a resident of Karnal in Haryana. Lieutenant Vinay had married Himanshi Narwal of Gurugram just 7 days before his murder. Both of them had gone to Pahalgam on 21 April to celebrate their honeymoon. As soon as the news of Vinay's death was received, his father, sister and father-in-law left for Kashmir the same night. Vinay's postmortem was done on Wednesday morning. His body has reached Delhi by air. In the evening, his last rites will be performed in his ancestral village Bhusli in Karnal. Currently his family lives in Sector 7 of Karnal. Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan reached Lieutenant Vinay's house and expressed condolences. After this, Chief Minister Naib Saini also spoke to Vinay's grandfather through video call. The Chief Minister said that strict action will be taken against those who carried out this cowardly and disgusting act. They will not be spared under any circumstances. Our fight against terror is firm and unwavering.
After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam yesterday (22 April), Himanshi had revealed that the terrorists shot Vinay after asking his name. Himanshi's video also went viral, in which Himanshi had said- I was eating Bhelpuri with my husband. A man came and said he is not a Muslim, then shot him. Himanshi further said that on Tuesday, when they were roaming in Baisaran Valley, the terrorists opened fire on Vinay. In which he died on the spot. However, he is safe.
On the incident, the Navy said, “The Indian Navy is shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was martyred in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. We express our deepest condolences to his family in this hour of grief. Among the tourists killed by terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday was Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, a resident of Karnal, Haryana. He had joined the Navy only 3 years ago. He had a destination wedding in Mussoorie just 7 days ago. After this, he went to Pahalgam to celebrate his honeymoon with his wife Himanshi. Grandfather Hawa Singh said - Earlier Vinay-Himanshi were going to Europe to celebrate their honeymoon. But, when they did not get the visa at the last moment, they went to Jammu and Kashmir. Grandfather Hawa Singh says with a choked voice… If only he had got a visa for Europe, then grandson Vinay would have been among us today. Lieutenant Vinay's birthday was also on 1 May, 8 days later. The family had a grand celebration for the first birthday after marriage. A party was planned. After this, he had to return to Kochi on duty with his wife on May 3. Vinay Narwal was originally from Bhusli village in Karnal. But, his family has been living in Sector-7 for the last 15 years. He did his schooling from Sant Kabir School in Karnal. After which he did B.Tech from Delhi. Vinay was good in studies. Vinay's grandfather Hawa Singh said, "Our family has been associated with the army since the beginning. My uncle was also in the army. Vinay's maternal grandfather's brother was also in the army and he also fought with the British. My nephew is also in the army. I myself was earlier in the BSF. After retiring from there, I joined Haryana Police and now I have retired from the police as well.
Vinay was posted in Kochi, Kerala. His father Rajesh Kumar is a superintendent in the customs department. He is posted in Panipat. His grandfather Hawa Singh retired from Haryana Police in 2004. His mother Asha Devi and grandmother Biru Devi are housewives. Vinay's younger sister Srishti is preparing for civil services in Delhi. Vinay's relationship with Himanshi from Gurugram was fixed just 2 months ago. Himanshi is doing PhD and also teaches children online. Himanshi's father Sunil Kumar is an Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) in Gurugram. Vinay had taken leave for marriage on 28 March. They got married in Mussoorie on 16 April. A reception party was held in Karnal on the 19th. After marriage, they had planned a honeymoon in Europe. They had also applied for a visa for this. But, the visa could not be obtained and the program to go to Europe was cancelled. After this, both of them left for Jammu and Kashmir on 21 April. On 22 April, they were staying in a hotel in Pahalgam. According to Dada Hawa Singh, after having food, they went down to roam around the destination point. During that time, the terrorist attack took place.
