Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): A major breakthrough has come in the case of minor girl rape and murder at Jaynagar, South 24 Parganas district. The fast-track additional district court at Baruipur has pronounced the death sentence of the prime accused Mustakim Sardar. This was in the wake of continuous protest by people across the state demanding justice in the RG Kar case. While demonstrations are going on in the state for justice in the RG Kar matter, it took only 63 days to get justice in the Jaynagar case.

On October 4, a minor girl went missing while returning home from tuition classes. Her body was found late at night in a reservoir near her home. The police arrested Mustakim Sardar in connection with this case.

After the guilty verdict in the Jaynagar case, the state police expressed their satisfaction with this success. According to them, the speed at which justice has been delivered in this case is unprecedented. They stated that their sole aim was to ensure that the victim and her family received justice as quickly as possible. Though justice in the RG Kar case has been delayed, in the Jaynagar case, the accused has been sentenced in 63 days. This comparison has increased the public's trust in the judiciary of the state.
