Judicial Duties Withdrawn from Justice Verma Amid Cash Scandal, High Court Issues Circular

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Justice Yashwant Verma of Delhi High Court has suffered a major setback due to the cash scandal. The Delhi High Court has issued a circular and withdrawn all judicial work from Justice Verma until further orders. This action has been taken after the order of the Supreme Court. The circular clearly states that Justice Yashwant Verma's bench will no longer hear any cases. The Delhi High Court has taken this decision citing recent events and it has been implemented with immediate effect. The court also informed that the court master of Bench-III will now give new dates in the cases.
It is worth noting that earlier the Supreme Court had directed the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court to withdraw all judicial work from Justice Verma. After which today the Delhi High Court has issued this formal circular. Recently, Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay had submitted a detailed report to CJI Sanjeev Khanna regarding the fire at Justice Yashwant Verma's official residence. This report was also made public by the Supreme Court. Bundles of burnt notes were visible in the pictures and videos released by the apex court. However, Justice Verma has expressed suspicion of a conspiracy regarding this entire incident.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the CJI has constituted a three-member committee for investigation. This committee includes Justice Sheel Nagu, Justice Sandhawalia and Justice Shivraman. CJI Sanjeev Khanna had already asked Justice Verma to stay away from judicial work. Let us tell you that on March 14, on the night of Holi, at around 11:35 pm, a fire broke out in Justice Verma's government bungalow. At that time he was out of Delhi. His family members informed the fire department to extinguish the fire. A large number of police forces also reached the spot. During this, a huge amount of cash was allegedly recovered there. The firemen found an entire room full of notes, after which the matter got embroiled in controversies.
