India's Bold Space Plans: Indigenous Space Station by 2035, Indian on Moon by 2040
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu ): India continues to soar new heights in the space sector. Announcing a major development, Union Minister of Science & Technology and Space, Jitendra Singh, has declared that the country will set up its very own indigenous space station by 2035. And this ambitious space mission has been lined up to send an Indian to the moon by 2040.
In his address, the minister said, "We are going to build our own space station by 2035, which will be called the Indian Space Station. Moreover, by 2040, we may land an Indian on the moon. India is also fully prepared for its first manned space mission, Gaganyaan, under which an Indian astronaut will be sent to space. The first astronaut is expected to journey into space by the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2026."
Apart from Gaganyaan, the nation has also taken the task to understand the bottom of the ocean. India's Deep Sea Mission seeks to send a human into space to reach an ocean bed at a depth of 6,000 meters. Such a mission would offer key learnings for the Indian Ocean marine environment. This and much more depict India as taking more prominence in science and technology on the world scene.
