Prayagraj (The Uttam Hindu): On January 16, 2025 the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather alert for Prayagraj, forecasting rain and dense fog as the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela continues to draw millions of devotees. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the region, warning that adverse weather could impact the celebrations.

The weather in Prayagraj is expected to be cloudy with light rain throughout the day. Temperatures are likely to drop with a minimum of around 8 degrees Celsius and a maximum of approximately 18 degrees Celsius. Cold winds blowing at 8 km/h will further intensify the chill making it important for attendees to wear warm clothing.

To ensure the comfort and safety of the devotees, authorities have set up free night shelters and arranged bonfires at key locations to help counter the cold. The IMD also predicts that dense fog will persist, particularly affecting visibility in areas surrounding Prayagraj. As the Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13 and will continue until February 26 progresses, officials are urging devotees to stay informed about weather updates and be prepared for any changes. With over 400 million expected attendees, the event remains one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
