Khandwa (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic incident has been reported from Kondawat village in the Chaigaon Makhan region of Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh. Seven people drowned while cleaning a well for the Gangaur Visarjan ritual. Upon receiving information, villagers immediately started a rescue operation. Police and administration dispatched a rescue team to the site. The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.

It is suspected that toxic gases formed due to the sludge and waste in the well caused the accident. The exact number of people trapped inside the well remains unclear. SP Manoj Rai, SDM Bajrang Bahadur Singh, and Chaigaon Makhan police have rushed to the spot.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village. A Home Guard rescue team from Khandwa has arrived and is attempting to enter the well. Water is being poured into the well to neutralize the gas. Cranes, ambulances, and administrative teams are actively involved in the rescue efforts. Pandhana MLA Chhaya More also visited the village to assess the situation. Reports indicate that the victims had entered the well to clean it for the Gangaur Visarjan ceremony. A large amount of sludge had accumulated inside, and it is feared that the victims may be trapped beneath it.
