New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a bizarre turn of events, a Bengaluru-based woman allegedly approached a doctor seeking a prescription for tablets to "kill her mother-in-law." The shocking request prompted the doctor, Dr. Sunil Kumar Hebbi, to immediately file a police complaint, leading to an investigation by Sanjaynagar police. Authorities have since identified the woman and issued a summons for questioning.

The incident unfolded on February 17 when Dr. Hebbi received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. The sender, identifying herself as Sahana, greeted the doctor and requested to converse in Kannada. Initially believing it to be a routine medical inquiry, Dr. Hebbi engaged in conversation. However, as the exchange progressed, Sahana hesitated before revealing her actual request—medication to poison her mother-in-law.

Taken aback by the disturbing request, Dr. Hebbi refused outright, emphasizing the ethical duty of medical professionals to save lives, not end them. "I told her we must heal, not harm. I also questioned how she obtained my number and warned her against misusing it," he recounted. However, Sahana persisted, pleading with him to simply message the names of the tablets. Disturbed by the relentless messages, Dr. Hebbi decided to approach the Sanjaynagar police and lodge a formal complaint.

Despite assurances of swift action from the police, Dr. Hebbi expressed concerns about potential threats due to his involvement in anti-corruption social activism. "Her WhatsApp display picture was not visible, and I suspect this could have been an attempt to trap me," he stated.

The case took another twist when Sahana, accompanied by her husband, appeared at the police station and claimed that she had intended to take her own life, not her mother-in-law's. According to a report in the agency, she alleged that her plea for medication was a cry for help rather than an intent to harm someone else. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the true intent behind her request and whether any further legal action is warranted.
