Shimla(The Uttam Hindu): Four passengers from Rewari, Haryana, lost their lives in a road accident on the Delhi-Haridwar highway late last night. A fifth passenger, Mahipal, was seriously injured and is currently receiving treatment at Rishikesh AIIMS.

The accident occurred in the Bahadarabad police station area when a car traveling from Delhi to Dehradun collided with a truck parked on the roadside. The impact of the collision was so severe that two passengers died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Kehar Singh, Aditya, Manish, and Prakash.

Preliminary investigations suggest the driver was speeding at the time of the crash. Officials believe the vehicle may have attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding with the truck. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Rashmi Pant, Additional Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), noted that the truck’s sudden stop could have been a contributing factor, as the driver might not have seen it in time due to limited visibility. While speed limit boards and reflectors were in place, Pant emphasized the need for additional signage, such as "no parking" and accident-prone area markers, to enhance safety on the route.
