Delhi Elections 2025: BJP Alleges Fake Voting in Seelampur Amid Burqa Controversy

New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): The ongoing voting for the Delhi Assembly elections witnessed a disturbance in the Seelampur Assembly constituency with voters alleging that they were being denied their right to vote. Seelampur, a Muslim-majority area, became the epicenter of the controversy when locals and political parties raised concerns about the integrity of the voting process. Voting began at 7 AM in Seelampur, but soon allegations surfaced with the BJP accusing voters of indulging in fake voting, allegedly disguised under the cover of burqas. Tensions escalated, and a ruckus broke out near Aryan Public School, where the voting was taking place. Locals claimed that they were not being allowed to cast their votes, prompting a heavy police presence on the scene to manage the situation and calm the crowd.
This high-stakes contest sees Zubair Chaudhary of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Abdul Rehman of Congress and Anil Gaur of the BJP vying for the Seelampur seat. The 2020 election results saw Abdul Rehman from AAP winning, but in this election, AAP chose not to field him and he subsequently joined Congress. According to the Election Commission, Seelampur Assembly constituency has a total of 1,92,136 registered voters, including 100,866 male voters and 91,266 female voters, with just 4 identifying as third gender. As of 1 PM, the voter turnout stood at 33.31%, with 20% reported by 11 AM and 8.03% by 9 AM. Earlier in the day, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal cast his vote, accompanied by his elderly parents, wife and son. In a bid to encourage voter participation, he appealed to the citizens of Delhi to come out in large numbers and exercise their democratic right.
