Manipur( The Uttam Hindu): District administration of Jiribam, Manipur, imposed a curfew on Monday after Kuki-Zo organizations in the hill districts enforced a total shutdown protesting over the killings of 11 suspected militants, reported news agency PTI.


DM has order that nobody carried weapons, such as arms, swords, sticks, stones, or other such deadly weapons and sharp-edged tools which have to be used for offensive purposes.


Eligibility for Exemption from Curfew

Government offices, officials, and security personnel who maintain the public order are exempted. In the concerned area, any emergency, weddings, funerals, and other ceremonies will require authorization in writing.


The DM had quoted a police report threatening an all-out public disturbance and loss of human lives owing to the "unlawful activities of certain antisocial elements pursuing their nefarious goals."


The Kuki-Zo Council said that the victims were "village volunteers". The council has declared a total shutdown from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM yesterday in respect of the victims and in expressing collective grief and solidarity for those brutally killed. The council also calls for an immediate and comprehensive investigation and that perpetrators are brought to account.


Eleven suspected militants were killed in a fierce gun battle with security forces after insurgents, well armed and in camouflage, began firing indiscriminately at a police station and a CRPF camp located in the Jiribam district on Monday.

Also two CRPF personnel were injured in the fierce shootout at Borobekra with one said to be critical.
