CBSE's Groundbreaking Move: Students to Pick Exam Toughness – Here's What’s Coming!

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): In a significant development, CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) is working on introducing a system where students can choose their exam difficulty level according to their abilities. This move is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which proposes offering students exams at two levels in various subjects, based on their knowledge and capacity.
Currently, this two-level exam pattern has already been implemented for Mathematics in the Class 10 board exams. According to CBSE sources, several rounds of consultation meetings have already been conducted, and the plan has been thoroughly examined. Under this system, students will be able to select the level of difficulty for their exam, allowing their skills and understanding to be assessed more accurately.
CBSE now plans to extend this exam pattern to other key subjects like Science and Social Science. The objective is to ensure that students have better opportunities in their chosen fields of study and are able to appear for exams based on their abilities. However, the proposal has not yet been presented to the Board’s governing body, and it can only be implemented after approval from the highest authority.
Additionally, for this proposal to be fully realized, changes will be required in the curriculum. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), which is responsible for preparing educational materials and textbooks, will have to revise the textbooks to align them with the two-level exam system.
