Mumbai(The Uttam Hindu): Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra faced a significant setback as BookMyShow, the online ticketing platform, removed all content related to him and delisted him from its artist roster on Saturday. This move followed a letter from Shiv Sena youth leader and social media chief Rahool N Kanal, who had previously urged BookMyShow to refrain from hosting Kamra’s content. Kanal had written to Big Tree Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the parent company of BookMyShow, on April 2, asking them not to provide a platform for Kamra due to his alleged divisive rhetoric.

In his letter, Kanal expressed his gratitude to BookMyShow for taking action and removing Kamra’s content from the platform, including from the search history. He praised the platform for ensuring that its offerings aligned with the values of pure entertainment, devoid of personal agendas. Kanal emphasized that while Mumbaikars appreciate all forms of art, they do not support divisive speech. Kanal also criticized Kamra for his repeated defamatory remarks against prominent public figures, including the Prime Minister and other government leaders. He argued that Kamra’s statements crossed ethical and legal boundaries, potentially disrupting public order and social harmony.

The controversy over Kamra intensified after he referred to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a traitor in a song, prompting three cases against the comedian. Although Kamra has been granted temporary protection from arrest by the Madras High Court, police are still investigating the incident, with Kamra yet to appear for questioning despite multiple summons.
