New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu):Delhi airport has implemented temporary special enclosures for passengers whose flights are delayed or canceled due to bomb scares or adverse weather conditions.

Many passengers experience long waits after boarding, as disruptions from fog or hoax bomb threats cause delays. Over the past three months, between 500 to 800 flights were delayed due to repeated bomb scares, and the past week has seen numerous passengers stranded due to fog-related cancellations and delays.

According to airport authorities, these enclosures are designed to assist passengers whose flights are delayed for more than three hours or canceled, allowing them to quickly re-enter the terminal after a faster security check. This process will reduce the time taken for deboarding and re-boarding from around 2.5 hours to just a few minutes. The enclosures are located at various points, including bus boarding gates and certain aerobridges at Terminal 3, the transfer area in Terminal 2, and the bus boarding gate at Terminal 1.

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) stated that these enclosures, ranging from 250 to 450 square meters, can accommodate between 55 and 120 passengers at a time. The enclosures are intended to facilitate a smooth security screening process, allowing passengers to re-enter the terminal's Security Hold Area (SHA) with minimal delay. Essential amenities, including toilets and vending machines, will be available within the enclosures wherever possible. Once screened, passengers will be allowed to access the SHA, where they can enjoy the usual facilities.

The enclosures will be accessible only to passengers from delayed or canceled flights and airline staff escorting them for security reasons. Staff from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be stationed inside to screen passengers before they join the rest of the screened travelers in the SHA. Private security personnel will also be present to verify passengers' documents.
