Bhubaneswar(The Uttam Hindu):In a shocking incident in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, a 4-year-old girl was sold by her parents for ₹40,000 due to financial struggles. The parents, a couple from Bihar working as daily laborers in the Badagada area, reportedly handed their child over to a childless couple in Pipili. Acting swiftly, the Badagada police rescued the girl and detained six people, including the parents and intermediaries involved in the transaction.

The case came to light when a local resident, Sarthak Mahadik, informed the police that the couple staying in his home had sold their child. Trupti Ranjan Nayak, Inspector-in-Charge of Badagada Police Station, confirmed that an investigation was immediately launched. The rescued girl was found in a Pipili village, and all six accused are now under custody.

The parents confessed to their actions during interrogation and implicated two intermediaries from the Badagada area who facilitated the sale. Authorities are continuing the investigation to uncover further details of the incident and the involvement of other parties.
