New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police arrested nine individuals involved in three separate drug-related cases. Authorities seized four kilograms of heroin, Rs 10 lakh in drug money, a vehicle and a note-counting machine. The arrests were made by the Gharinda police station in Amritsar with the main suspects identified as Amritpal Singh an army employee on leave and his associate Mandeep Singh both residents of Tarn Tarn.

Also arrested were Madhav Sharma, a hawala operator from Rajasthan, and Rajvir Singh another army employee posted in Maharashtra who was allegedly involved in the smuggling ring. The group has connections to drug smugglers in Pakistan and was allegedly operating a large-scale drug trafficking operation. Amritpal Singh and Rajvir Singh reportedly initiated the illegal business which they expanded over time.

The police have filed a case and are continuing their investigation into the network. This marks a significant effort in curbing cross-border drug smuggling in the region.
