7 lives lost in Uttar Pradesh as SUV crashes into auto while overtaking
Bijnor (The Uttam Hindu): A horrific accident occurred on National Highway 74 in Dhampur, Uttar Pradesh, when a Hyundai Creta, attempting to overtake another vehicle, collided with an autorickshaw carrying a family. The crash claimed the lives of six family members, including a newly-wed couple, while the auto driver succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
According to police reports, the Creta swerved into the opposite lane at high speed while overtaking and struck the autorickshaw. There were seven people in the auto, six of whom died at the scene. The driver of the autorickshaw passed away later in the hospital. Bijnor Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek confirmed the details and stated that post-mortems of the deceased are underway. The victims included four men, two women, and a young girl. The family was reportedly returning to their home in Uttar Pradesh after attending a wedding in Jharkhand.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the victims' families and ordered swift relief measures. His office stated that the Chief Minister had instructed district administration officials to reach the scene immediately and expedite the treatment of the injured. He also wished for the speedy recovery of those hurt in the incident. The tragic incident has left the community in shock, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision.
