Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station Sets New Record for Electricity Generation

Shimla (The Uttam Hindu): SJVN's flagship project, the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) has achieved a new record by generating 7421.453 million units of electricity in the financial year 2024-25. This is the third-highest annual energy generation in the plant's history.

Previous Records

Earlier, in 2015-16, the plant had generated 7313.784 million units of electricity. The highest annual generation record of NJHPS stands at 7610.257 million units (2011-12), followed by the second-highest generation of 7445.431 million units (2019-20).

Multiple Records Set in FY 2024-25

During FY 2024-25, NJHPS achieved several other notable records. On August 13, 2024, the plant generated 39.572 million units, its highest single-day generation. Additionally, July 2024 saw the highest monthly generation of 1222.170 million units. The second quarter of the financial year also witnessed the highest quarterly generation of 3450.98 million units. On December 1, 2024, the project achieved its second-fastest design energy of 6612 million units.

Project Head of NJHPS, Shri Ashutosh Bahuguna, credited this achievement to all departments of the power station. He particularly appreciated the efforts of the operations and maintenance team and the dam team at Nathpa. Bahuguna also expressed gratitude for the unique support and guidance of the SJVN management.
