Nahan (The Uttam Hindu) : On the occasion of Eid in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district, there was a ruckus till late Monday night over cow slaughter in Paonta Sahib. Hundreds of Hindu organizations took to the streets and blocked the highway in protest against cow slaughter. They demanded strict action against the accused. In fact, a large number of cow remains have been found near the Yamuna river on the border of Himachal and Uttarakhand, where 15 to 20 cows were suspected to have been killed. As soon as the information was received, people from Hindu organizations reached Paonta Sahib in large numbers and took to the streets demanding action. Due to no action being taken till late evening, the protesters blocked the Chandigarh-Dehradun National Highway and expressed their anger by placing the cow remains on the road. To control the situation, a high-level meeting was held between Dehradun SSP and Sirmaur SP Nischint Singh Negi.

The police assured action within a few hours as per the demand of the people, after which the road was opened for traffic late at night. SP Sirmaur NS Negi said that as soon as the information about the case was received, the police reached the spot and an FIR has been registered in this case. He said that the remains of cows were found on the border of Himachal and Uttarakhand, so an FIR has been registered by the police of both the states. He said that the police has taken action and detained some people and their interrogation is going on. He appealed to the people to maintain peace and assured appropriate action against the accused. SP Sirmaur NS Negi said that the police will investigate the entire matter.Arun Sharma, a senior activist of Hindu Jagran Manch, said that an attempt has been made to provoke the sentiments of Hindus by killing cows and such cases have come to light here earlier as well.

He said that if the police does not take action against the culprits soon, then the people of Hindu society will be forced to take action themselves. He also alleged that some people are living illegally on the Himachal-Uttarakhand border, who should be investigated. He said that he himself went to the spot and the SP told that these cow remains were found in the border of Uttarakhand and because these cows were found near the border of Himachal, that is why we have also registered a case. After the assurance given by the police, people associated with Hindu organizations restored the road and clearly said that if the main accused in the case are not arrested by Tuesday afternoon, they will have to stage a massive protest.
