Nainital (The Uttam Hindu): A horrific road accident occurred in Bhimtal, Uttarakhand, on Wednesday, when a state roadways bus plunged about 1500 feet into a deep gorge. The accident caused screams and panic at the scene. At least four passengers lost their lives, and several others were injured. The bus, which was en route from Bhimtal to Haldwani, had approximately 20 to 27 passengers onboard.


Upon receiving the news of the accident, local authorities and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the site and began rescue operations. The injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals. Nainital's Superintendent of Police, Prahlad Meena, confirmed that police teams were quickly dispatched to the accident site. Rescue and relief efforts are currently ongoing. The police are investigating the cause of the accident, trying to determine whether it was due to driver negligence or a technical malfunction.

The accident has sent shockwaves through the entire region, with locals expressing their condolences to the families of the deceased. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He wrote on social media, "The news of the bus accident near Bhimtal is extremely heartbreaking. I have directed the local administration to expedite relief and rescue efforts. I pray to Baba Kedar for the safe return of all the passengers."
