Tradition Takes a Twist: Dhoti, Kurta-Pajama and Sari Break the Gown and Cap Norm

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Maharishi Valmiki Sanskrit University organized its first grand convocation ceremony at the auditorium of RKSD College on Wednesday. In a departure from the tradition of wearing gowns and caps, students received their degrees in traditional Indian attire such as dhoti, kurta-pyjama, and saree. A total of 527 students were awarded graduate and post-graduate degrees, and 38 students were honored with gold medals for their excellent academic performance.
Haryana Governor and Chancellor of the University, Bandaru Dattatreya, attended the ceremony as the chief guest. In his address, Governor Dattatreya emphasized the importance of promoting Indian culture and traditions. He appreciated the university administration's initiative to break from colonial traditions and said that such events help connect the youth with their cultural roots. He urged students to continue their journey with hard work and dedication.
Vice Chancellor of Maharishi Valmiki Sanskrit University, Ramesh Chandra Bhardwaj, expressed his pride in this historic moment for the university. He noted that efforts to organize the convocation had been underway since the university's establishment, and under the guidance of the Governor, the dream was finally realized.
