Hailstorms and Heavy Rain Devastate Crops in Rewari, Leaving Farmers in Despair

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A severe hailstorm and heavy rain in Rewari late Friday evening have caused significant damage to the crops of local farmers. A brief 5-minute hailstorm, accompanied by strong winds, destroyed the mustard and wheat crops that were ready for harvest. The farmers, unable to protect their crops under the open sky, saw their hopes dashed once again as nature’s fury wiped out their hard-earned produce.
The bad weather had persisted for the last several days, prompting some farmers to hastily begin harvesting their mustard crops. However, only about 5 to 10 percent of the mustard crop in the district had been harvested before the storm hit, leaving the rest still standing in the fields. Meanwhile, the wheat crop, which had not yet ripened, was also severely affected by the rain and hailstorm that started around 7:30 pm on Friday evening. The Khol area witnessed hailstones falling for just five minutes, but that was enough to cause extensive damage.
Farmers in the area expressed their frustration, stating that this is not the first time their crops have been ruined by bad weather during the crucial ripening phase. They have yet to receive compensation for previous crop damages, and now their current harvest has been destroyed. Many farmers had taken loans to sow their crops, hoping to repay them by selling their harvest. However, the unexpected weather disaster has left them in a dire situation, with no way to salvage their crops.
Despite their best efforts, the farmers are helpless in the face of nature’s wrath, once again bearing the brunt of an uncontrollable calamity.
