Legendary Indian Filmmaker Shyam Benegal Passes Away at 90
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Shyam Benegal, the renowned Bollywood filmmaker known for directing several blockbuster movies, has passed away at the age of 90. He breathed his last around 6:30 PM. Reports suggest that Shyam had been battling kidney issues for a long time. His daughter, Piya Benegal, confirmed the sad news of his demise. The news has left fans and celebrities in shock, with many expressing their condolences on social media.
Recently, he had celebrated his birthday, and actress Shabana Azmi had shared pictures from the celebration on her Instagram, which went viral. However, this iconic director and producer has now bid farewell to the world. According to reports, he had been struggling with a kidney-related illness for some time.
The Government of India had honored Benegal for his exceptional contributions to cinema, awarding him the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 1991. Some of his most successful films include Manthan, Zubeidaa, and Sardari Begum.
