In Haryana’s Palwal 40,000 residents benefitted from Ayushman Bharat scheme in 6 years
Faridabad (The Uttam Hindu): The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has been setting new milestones in expanding basic medical facilities to citizens and transforming the healthcare landscape of the country. Haryana’s Palwal district has become an epitome of the scheme’s success with more than 5 lakh Ayushman Bharat cards issued and over 40,000 beneficiaries receiving its benefits. The government-run civil hospital in Palwal is leading this initiative to provide free and affordable treatments to patients ranging from minor to life-threatening ailments including surgeries. A total of 7.7 lakh Ayushman cards are to be made in Palwal district, and so far, 5.19 lakh have been issued covering 74% of the targeted beneficiaries. Additionally 23 government and 14 private hospitals are part of the network where beneficiaries can avail themselves of the scheme's benefits.
In the past six years more than 40,000 locals have received treatment for a variety of ailments such as orthopaedic issues, cataracts, gynaecological problems and general surgeries. Patients who face any difficulties with treatment or the process of getting free care can file complaints by registering them on the toll-free helpline at 14505. As of October 2023, a total of 26 crore Ayushman cards were issued nationwide. The scheme has catered to 5.7 crore hospital admissions, amounting to more than Rs 70,000 crore in treatment costs. Under this flagship scheme implemented by the National Health Authority (NHA) nearly 12 crore families are provided with health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalizations.
