Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) has slapped a penalty of ₹1.16 crore on the organizers of Punjabi singer Karan Aujla's December 7 concert for displaying illegal advertisements at the event venue. The MC had penalized M/s Scope Entertainment and Team Entertainment Innovation under the Chandigarh Advertisement Control Order, 1954.

The MC's notice states that nine boards, banners, and hoardings totaling 916 sq ft were displayed at the Exhibition Ground in Sector 34 without prior approval from the competent authority. This unauthorized display violated the norms set out in the advertisement control order.

As per the notice, the organizers are liable to pay ₹1,15,60,191 comprising advertisement fee, penalty, interest, and GST. The payment date is fixed on December 17; else, legal action will be initiated. In case of delayed payment, an 18% annual interest, compounded annually, will be added to the penalty and advertisement fee. The penalty implies that it is crucial to abide by the municipal advertising norms.
