Actress Dies After Ingesting Amazonian Frog Venom in Ritual

Mexico(The Uttam Hindu): Mexican actress Marcela Alcázar Rodríguez, 33, dies from eating frog venom in the name of spiritual cleansing by drinking Amazonian frog venom as part of a ritual during her visit to a spiritual retreat in Mayocoyani, Durango. The ritual involves drinking water, skin burns, and frog venom applied on those wounds to cleanse the body of toxins but results in death in some cases.

After taking the venom, Rodríguez began to experience heavy vomiting and diarrhea, which are typical symptoms during the cleansing process. Initially, she refused help, but her condition worsened, and she was rushed to a hospital, where doctors were unable to save her.

The potent venom has given rise to dangerous reactions, from seizures to death, and a shaman said to oversee the ceremony allegedly ran out of the ceremony site when the condition of Rodríguez worsened. The police have now set out to look for him as well. Although widely practiced by some spiritualists, many fatalities have been linked with the powerful effects of frog venom of the ritual.
