New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi is currently experiencing a severe cold wave, and the weather is about to change once again. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, indicating the possibility of fog and intense cold within the next 24 hours. According to the weather department, light fog or haze may persist during the morning of January 3rd and 4th. However, no specific alert has been issued for this. The department also mentioned that intermittent cloud movement might be observed during the day.

According to the forecast, a strong western disturbance is expected to affect the plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR and the north-western parts of India on January 5th. Due to this, clouds are likely to cover the sky during the day and light rain could be seen in Delhi on January 6th. Winds blowing at a speed of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour are also anticipated.

On New Year's Day, light fog was observed in Delhi-NCR and the minimum temperature recorded was 7.4°C. The weather department expects the minimum temperature on January 3rd, 4th and 5th to be around 9°C with the maximum temperature ranging between 18°C and 20°C. The department also forecasts a temperature drop on January 6th and 7th with minimum temperatures possibly reaching 8°C during this period. Meteorologists state that heavy snowfall in the higher Himalayan regions was caused by the western disturbance. Now, cold winds are moving towards Delhi from the north-west, bringing with them the icy chill. These winds are expected to help improve the pollution levels in the city rapidly.
