Police ASI Killed in Attack by Villagers in Bihar's Munger, 4 Arrested

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) died after being allegedly assaulted by a group of people in Munger district, Bihar, police reported on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as ASI Santosh Kumar Singh, who was posted at the Mufassil police station in Munger.
In a similar incident on Wednesday night, another ASI died following a confrontation between police personnel and a group of individuals in Araria district. The most recent incident occurred on Friday evening in Nandlalpur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station.
On that evening, Singh, along with other officers, had gone to Nandlalpur village to investigate a previous scuffle around 8:30 PM. During the investigation, he was attacked with a sharp weapon on his head by individuals involved in the altercation. Singh sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the nearest government hospital, and later transferred to a facility in Patna for advanced treatment, according to Chandan Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mufassil police station.
Sadly, Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Patna hospital in the early hours of Saturday, Kumar confirmed. A case has been registered, and four individuals have been detained in connection with the incident.
The earlier incident in Araria occurred in the Lakshmipur area under the jurisdiction of the Phulkaha police station. On Wednesday night, a police team was attempting to apprehend a suspect when a brawl broke out between the officers and individuals protesting the arrest, as reported by SP Anjani Kumar. The deceased ASI from that incident was identified as Rajeev Ranjan.
