New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi is set to receive a new six-lane flyover soon, aimed at improving traffic infrastructure. According to the Public Works Department (PWD), the flyover connecting the ESI metro station to Club Road underwent a successful trial run on Tuesday, lasting more than 8 hours, with no traffic-related issues reported. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi inaugurated a similar flyover earlier this week, linking the Apsara Border to Anand Vihar to bypass traffic signals. Following that, a six-lane flyover on Club Road in Punjabi Bagh is now expected to open soon.

Despite being ready for opening in August, the flyover faced delays due to a tree located in the middle of the road. Initially, forest department officials had opposed the removal of the tree, but a solution was found to preserve it by erecting barriers and placing retro-reflective stickers around it. Another meeting is underway to finalize the trial run details, and once operational, the 1.5-km flyover will connect the Punjabi Bagh Flyover to the Raja Garden Flyover in West Delhi. Cost of Delhi’s Six-Lane Flyover Project The project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 352.32 crore. It will involve the removal of 33 trees, including the one in the center of the road, and repair work will soon begin on Ring Road, with concrete Jersey barriers to be installed for a signal-free stretch.

Fuel and Environmental Benefits Once operational, the flyover is expected to save around 18 lakh litres of fuel annually, while also reducing carbon emissions by approximately 1.6 lakh tonnes each year. Commuters from North and South Delhi will benefit from reduced travel time, with the flyover offering a direct route to Paschim Vihar and Punjabi Bagh. The new flyover will also aid in easing traffic between Raja Garden and Azadpur, making commuting smoother for those traveling between these areas. The AAP government has already constructed 38 new flyovers and underpasses over the past 10 years, including the recent Anand Vihar-Dilshad Garden flyover.
