Delhi Police issues traffic advisory for New Year's Eve, restrictions in major areas: Check the route

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi Police have issued a traffic advisory outlining the arrangements and restrictions for the New Year's Eve celebrations across the city, particularly around Connaught Place. With large crowds expected at popular celebration spots like Connaught Place and Hauz Khas, motorists are advised to avoid Bhairon Road and Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan, as a large gathering is anticipated at the Delhi Zoo.
A senior police officer stated that traffic personnel will be deployed at key locations, focusing on markets, malls, and celebration hotspots. The restrictions will begin at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 31, and continue until the end of the celebrations. These will apply to both private and public transport vehicles. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Dhal Singh, emphasized that strict actions would be taken against violations such as drunk driving, overspeeding, stunt biking, and reckless driving. Certain routes will be closed to traffic, including those leading to Connaught Place, such as the Mandi House roundabout, Bengali Market roundabout, North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing, RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing, Gole Market roundabout, GPO roundabout, and Kasturba Gandhi Road, among others. Vehicles will not be allowed to enter Connaught Place's inner, middle, or outer circles unless they have a valid pass.
For parking, two-wheeler spaces are available near Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind AIR, Mandi House on Copernicus Marg, Minto Road on DD Upadhyaya Marg, Press Road area, Panchkuian Road on RK Ashram Marg, and KG Marg-Ferozshah Road Crossing on Copernicus Lane. Limited parking will be available near Connaught Place on a first-come, first-serve basis, with unauthorized vehicles subject to towing and penalties. At India Gate, special traffic management will be in place for both vehicles and pedestrians. Due to heavy pedestrian movement, vehicles may be diverted from the C-Hexagon and India Gate area through alternate routes such as Q-Point, Sunheri Masjid roundabout, Rajpath Rafi Marg, Windsor Place roundabout, Rajindra Prasad Road-Janpath, and Mathura Road-Purana Qila road. Visitors are encouraged to use public transport due to limited parking availability around India Gate.
