Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant bust, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) seized a truck carrying illegal liquor from Chandigarh to Bihar. The truck, intercepted in Lucknow, was found to be transporting the liquor hidden among 700 sacks of wall putty. The STF arrested Kapil Verma, a resident of Chandigarh, and recovered 459 boxes of various liquor brands, Rs 10,230 in cash, two mobile phones, an ATM card, an Aadhaar card, and a Tata truck with a Mohali registration.

The STF had received a tip-off about the illegal liquor supply, which was being transported to Samastipur, Bihar, via the Lucknow Expressway Toll Plaza in Kakori. During questioning, Verma disclosed that he was part of a gang smuggling liquor from Punjab and Haryana to Bihar, which has a strict liquor ban. The accused revealed that a Chandigarh resident, Rahul, had arranged the illegal shipment and paid him Rs 50,000 per trip.

The investigation is ongoing, and the STF is looking into the broader network involved in the illegal liquor trade.
