Canada follows America's Lead with New Visa Orders, Creating Trouble for Punjabis

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After the United States, Canada has now made things more difficult for Punjabis planning to study or work there. The country has recently made its immigration rules stricter, which could impact many people’s plans. Under these new rules, border and immigration officials have the authority to cancel temporary residence visas, including study and work permits, directly. The changes were introduced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and came into effect on January 31, 2025. These updates were also published in the Canada Gazette II.
The new rules allow officials to revoke Electronic Travel Authorizations (ETAs) and Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs) if someone is ineligible, provides false information or has a criminal record. Additionally, study and work permits can also be revoked in certain situations, such as if the permit holder becomes a permanent resident of Canada, passes away, or if there is an administrative mistake in their documents.
