India added 17.9 crore Jobs in the last decade, says BJP’s Sanju Verma

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has seen a significant increase in employment over the last decade with 17.9 crore jobs added since 2014 according to Sanju Verma, economist and national spokesperson for the BJP. Verma credited the success to the policies under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that "Modinomics is alive and kicking." Verma shared that 4.7 crore jobs were created in just the past year. She highlighted that, under the Congress government only 2.9 crore jobs were created between 2004 and 2014. Verma pointed out a significant drop in the unemployment rate, which has fallen from 6% in FY 2017-18 to just 3.2% today marking a record low.
Verma also underscored positive developments in labor force participation. The worker-population ratio (WPR) increased from 46.8% in FY 2018 to 58.2% now while the labor force participation rate (LFPR) grew from 49.8% in FY 2018 to 60.1% today. She highlighted an increase in gender participation with male LFPR rising slightly and female participation reaching an all-time high of 41.7% in June 2023 up from 37% in July 2022. The BJP spokesperson compared job creation across various sectors. In manufacturing jobs grew by 15% under Modi's leadership compared to just 6% under the previous Congress government. Similarly jobs in the services sector increased by 36% under Modi a significant rise from the 25% growth observed during the Congress-led administration. In contrast the agricultural sector saw a negative growth rate of 16% during the Congress era while jobs in agriculture have grown by 19% under Modi's leadership. Verma concluded that the robust job growth particularly in services and agriculture signifies India's positive trajectory under the current government.
