New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The list of the "World’s Richest Families 2024" has been revealed, and it includes the wealthiest family worldwide: the Walton family, owners of the retail giant Walmart. According to the Bloomberg report, the Walton family remains at the top for the second consecutive year. India’s Ambani family is also among the top families listed.

The Walton family, which owns the Walmart supermarket chain, tops the list of the richest families. Bloomberg’s report reveals that the family earns around $473.2 million daily, translating to about $328,577 per minute. The family’s wealth is valued at a staggering $432 billion (approximately ₹3,68,91,91,44,00,000). This fortune stems from the first Walmart store opened by Sam Walton over six decades ago. Currently, the third generation of the Walton family is running the business, holding about 46% of Walmart’s shares. Following Sam Walton's death in 1992, his children—Jim Walton, Rob Walton, and Alice Walton—have continued to manage the business.

It is noteworthy that Sam Walton came from a humble background. He worked in farming, sold milk, and even worked as a newspaper delivery boy to help his family. Later, he took a job at a store, but was fired by the owner due to dissatisfaction with his work. It was this incident that led Sam to realize the potential for high margins and significant profits in the grocery store business. Using his savings, he opened the first Walmart store in Arkansas in 1962. From there, he never looked back, and his journey eventually led his family to become one of the wealthiest in the world.
