Zero Mile Turns into War Zone: Bus Driver Shot Dead, Passengers Flee in Panic

Patna (The Uttam Hindu): Panic gripped Patna’s Zero Mile area on Monday evening when three unidentified criminals opened fire on a passenger bus, killing the driver, Dushyant Mishra, on the spot. The sudden attack led to chaos as terrified passengers jumped out of the bus and fled in all directions to save their lives.
The incident took place when the bus, operated by Neetu Raj Services, was heading toward Bettiah. As it slowed down due to traffic congestion, the assailants seized the moment and opened indiscriminate fire. According to eyewitnesses, the attack lasted around one and a half minutes, during which passengers ducked, lay on the floor, and scrambled for cover.
As the gunfire ceased, the attackers fled, leaving the driver bleeding on the seat. SP Dr. K Ramdas arrived at the scene with his team and recovered multiple bullet shells. Sadar SDPO-2 Satyakam confirmed that several rounds were fired and that the driver’s body has been sent to NMCH for postmortem.
Preliminary investigation points to an extortion attempt. Sources suggest the attackers may be linked to a criminal syndicate operating at the bus stand, where two notorious gangsters—currently in Beur Jail—allegedly continue to exert control. Police believe the attack could be retaliation for non-payment of extortion money by the bus operators.
The police are questioning the bus owner, conductor, and manager, while also gathering details about the driver. Raids are underway to locate and arrest the attackers. The incident has once again raised serious concerns over public safety and criminal influence in public transport hubs.
