"Women Are Terrified": NCW Chief Slams Murshidabad Violence, Vows to Meet Victims

Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has expressed concern over the violence during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act in West Bengal's Murshidabad district. She reached Kolkata on Thursday evening and said that the reports of atrocities against women are serious and the commission has taken cognizance of it.
'Women are very scared'… NCW chief's strong reaction on Murshidabad violence, will meet the victims: National Commission for Women chief Vijaya Rahatkar while talking to the media said, "We have received information that women have been tortured during the protest. They are scared. We will personally visit the spot and take stock of the situation and meet the victim women and listen to them."
He said that the commission has formed a committee to investigate the matter, in which he himself is also included. Vijaya Rahatkar will visit the violence affected areas of Murshidabad and Malda in the next three days.
He clarified that harassment of women is not acceptable under any circumstances and such incidents are highly condemnable. NCW will prepare a complete report of the situation and submit it to the central and state governments.
