Wedding Turns into Tragedy! 12 Family Members Washed Away in Bhakra Canal
Punjab (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic accident occurred when a cruiser car traveling from Punjab to Haryana plunged into the Bhakra Canal, resulting in the death of four people and leaving 11 others missing. Among the deceased, four were residents of Mansa.
According to reports, the accident took place on Friday night near the villages of Khai and Sardorewala in the subdivision due to dense fog. The vehicle, carrying around 14 members of the same family, was returning to their village, Mahmada, after attending a wedding in Fazilka, Punjab.
Upon receiving the information, rescue teams, along with police station in-charge Rajveer Singh, quickly arrived at the scene. The strong currents of the Bhakra Canal swept away 12 people, while one individual managed to escape by jumping out. A 10-year-old child was rescued and rushed to the government hospital in Ratia for treatment.
As of 11 PM, police personnel and divers were continuing their efforts to locate the missing passengers. However, the rescue operation was significantly hindered by the extreme cold and dense fog, making the mission increasingly challenging.
