Weather Chaos: Arctic Chill Hits North India; Delhi Dips to 4.3°C as Cold Wave Tightens Its Grip!
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Although dense fog hasn't fully set in Uttar Pradesh yet, the cold wave has caused a significant drop in temperatures due to snowfall in the mountains. The plains are currently experiencing intense cold weather. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for fog and cold waves in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and Rajasthan. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for various areas in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. According to Skymet Weather, the low-pressure area near Sri Lanka's coast has now moved towards the Gulf of Mannar and could shift towards South Tamil Nadu. As a result, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu experienced rainfall on Thursday. Additionally, light rain occurred in Kerala and parts of interior Karnataka. A noticeable drop in both day and night temperatures has been recorded across South Peninsular India, East, and North India.
Weather Update for Delhi :
The Meteorological Department has predicted that cold wave conditions will continue to develop in Delhi. By Friday morning, the temperature had dropped to around 4.3°C. Experts suggest that the minimum temperature in the capital will continue to fall. While residents will get some relief from the sun, icy winds will persist throughout the day. Dense fog is expected in Delhi NCR on December 17.
Where Will It Rain?
Rain is expected in regions like Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Jammu, and Kashmir over the next 24 hours. Snowfall is also likely to increase in high-altitude areas. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Kerala, and southern interior Karnataka are set to receive heavy rainfall. Light rain is also anticipated in Andaman and Lakshadweep. Moderate rain may occur in parts of Kerala, including Kollam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur.
Snowfall in the Mountains
The Kashmir Valley has experienced a slight rise in minimum temperatures, with light snowfall reported in Pulwama, Shopian, and Baramulla. Snowfall also occurred in Gulmarg, Tangmarg, Zojila Pass, and Gurez. High-altitude areas in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may also witness snowfall. A cold wave will continue to affect Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Cold winds are expected to persist in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, though people will experience some relief from the mild sunshine. The impact of fog will be felt in several locations.
