Virender Sehwag's Brother Vinod Arrested in Rs. 7 Crore Cheque Bounce Case

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): In a significant development, Vinod Sehwag, the younger brother of legendary Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, has been arrested by the Manimajra police station in Chandigarh in connection with a Rs. 7 crore cheque bounce case. The arrest marks a new twist in the ongoing saga, which has been unfolding since 2022. The case dates back to 2022 when Vinod Sehwag's company, Jalta Food and Beverages, issued cheques worth Rs 7 crore to Naina Plastic Factory, a supplier based in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. However, when the cheques were deposited in the bank, they bounced, leading to a complaint being filed by Krishna Mohan, a resident of Sector-12, Panchkula.
Court Declares Vinod Sehwag a Fugitive: The court took cognizance of the complaint and declared Vinod Sehwag, along with two other directors of Jalta Food and Beverages, Sudhir Malhotra and Vishnu Mittal, as fugitives in 2022. The order was passed under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Following the court's order, the Manimajra police station registered a case under section 174 against the three directors on September 25, 2023. The case has been ongoing since then, with Vinod Sehwag's arrest marking a significant development.
Vinod Sehwag Files Bail Application: Vinod Sehwag has filed a bail application in the district court in 174 cases registered against him. The CJM has issued a notice to the Manimajra police station to file a reply by March 10. Additionally, hearing in 138 cheque bounce cases will be held on Friday. Jalta Food and Beverages, the company at the center of the controversy, is a cold drinks factory based near Bahadurgarh in Rohtak, Haryana. The factory manufactures cold drinks, including jaljeera and other flavored drinks, which are filled in plastic bottles.
