Tarn Taran, Punjab (The Uttam Hindu): A Punjab Police employee, Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh of the Goindwal Sahib police station was shot dead in Kot Mohammad Khan village late Wednesday night. He had reached the village with a police team after receiving an online complaint regarding a violent clash between two rival groups. While attempting to intervene and calm the situation, Charanjit Singh was seriously injured in a sudden round of gunfire. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

According to local sources, tensions between the two parties had been simmering for several days. The police had earlier mediated and given both sides time to resolve the matter. However, another altercation broke out on Wednesday night, prompting an emergency response. As the police attempted to control the situation some individuals opened fire injuring the sub-inspector. In the chaos, other officers were also attacked and sustained injuries.

Senior officials, including DIG Ferozepur Range and SSP Harman Bir Singh Gill, arrived at the scene to oversee the situation and begin legal proceedings. Preliminary information suggests that a police officer’s revolver might have been used in the shooting, though no official confirmation has been given. Security has been heightened in the area, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack.
