New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): People who are troubled by the harsh horns of traffic on the road may soon get some relief. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari is planning to bring a new law to change the sound of vehicle horns. Under this law, the melodious sound of Indian musical instruments will be used in the horns of vehicles.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while unveiling this plan at a recent event, said that he believes that the loud and unpleasant sound of vehicle horns increases noise pollution, causing trouble to people. Instead, if the sound of Indian musical instruments like flute, tabla, violin or harmonium is used in the horn, it will be pleasant to hear and the noise will be reduced. Gadkari also expressed concern over air pollution from the transport sector. He said that about 40 percent of air pollution in the country is caused by transport. To deal with this problem, the government is promoting the use of green fuels like methanol and ethanol.

He also highlighted the progress of the Indian automobile industry. Gadkari said that the turnover of the Indian automobile sector was Rs 14 lakh crore in 2014, which has now increased to Rs 22 lakh crore. India has now become the third largest automobile market in the world, leaving behind Japan. Now only America and China are ahead of India in this list. India is also earning significant revenue by exporting two-wheelers and cars.

This initiative by the Union Minister is being considered as an important step towards reducing noise pollution and making the roads a pleasant experience.
