Vanuatu PM Cancels Lalit Modi's Passport, Dealing a Major Setback

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi, who was hoping to settle in the island country of Vanuatu located in the Pacific Ocean, has got a big shock. Vanuatu's Prime Minister Jotham Napat has directed the Citizenship Commission to cancel the Vanuatu passport issued to Lalit Modi with immediate effect.
This development comes after Lalit Modi recently applied to surrender his Indian passport at the Indian High Commission in London. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday confirmed that the IPL founder has formally applied to give up Indian citizenship.
It is worth noting that Lalit Modi left India in 2010 and started living in London. The decision of the Vanuatu government to cancel the passport is being considered a major setback for Lalit Modi's plans to settle in Vanuatu. It is not yet clear what steps Lalit Modi will take next, but this development certainly raises many questions about his future.
