Uttarakhand Tragedy: Thar Vehicle Plunges into Alaknanda River, 5 Dead

Devprayag (The Uttam Hindu): Tragedy struck on the Badrinath Highway near Bagwan, about 15 km from Devprayag towards Srinagar, when a Thar vehicle carrying six family members from Faridabad, Haryana, plunged into the Alaknanda River after overturning in a 250-meter deep gorge. The family, originally from Chamoli district, was headed to attend a Mehndi ceremony in Gauchar. The accident claimed the lives of five family members, including three children, while one woman, Anita Negi, was rescued and admitted to Srinagar Base Hospital. The deceased include Anita's son Aditya, her sister Meena Gusai, Meena's husband Sunil Gusai and their two children, studying in 12th and 8th grade.

According to reports, high speed is suspected to be the cause of the accident. The vehicle was recovered from the river with the help of a crane and the bodies were retrieved. Anita Negi's husband is in the army and she had left with her elder son and sister's family from Roorkee at around 3 am to attend the wedding ceremony. The injured woman is in shock and unable to speak. Relatives have reached the spot and authorities are investigating the incident
