Dehradun (The Uttam Hindu): The Uttarakhand government has intensified its efforts to regulate madrasas in the state, sealing 136 institutions for lacking proper documentation. With over 500 illegal madrasas still operating, the government is now investigating their funding sources. The officials will submit their findings directly to the Chief Minister's office, aiming to uncover whether these madrasas receive funding from foreign countries. The investigation will also examine the salaries of workers and the overall financial management of these institutions.

In the past month, the state government has taken extensive action against illegal madrasas, sealing 136 institutions for not having complete documents. However, the presence of over 500 illegal madrasas in the state raises concerns about their funding and objectives. The government has issued strict instructions to the district administration to verify the children studying in these madrasas and to check their financial sources. It will also be ensured that these illegal madrasas are not getting money from any suspicious sources and that the funds are not being used for any anti-national activities.

The increasing number of illegal madrasas in areas along the border is a matter of serious concern from the security point of view. Many madrasas have been reported to have opened without registration in towns adjoining UP such as Jaspur, Bajpur, Kichha, Kashipur, Rudrapur, Gadarpur, Pachhadun, and Haridwar district. The government is investigating the sources and objectives of these madrasas and taking necessary action. In a recent incident, the team of Dehradun district administration sealed a big madrasa in Sahaspur after earlier giving notice in the case of illegal construction. The said madrasa had illegally constructed one floor without the permission of the authority. The district level committee will investigate the matter and submit its report to the government. The government will then take further action based on the report.
