U.S. Strikes Houthi Rebels in Yemen, Killing 24 Civilians

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On Saturday, the U.S. launched military attacks against Yemen's Houthi rebels, killing at least 24 people, according to the Houthi-run health ministry. This came after the Houthis carried out multiple attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. The U.S. had warned the Houthis to stop their actions, or they would face serious consequences. President Donald Trump also addressed Iran, which supports the Houthis, saying that if Iran continues backing the group, it will be held fully accountable.
The U.S. Central Command explained that the attacks were part of operations to protect U.S. interests and restore safe navigation. The strikes targeted Houthi positions in Sanaa, Yemen, the group's stronghold. Residents reported that explosions shook the area like an earthquake, frightening women and children.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have carried out over 100 attacks on shipping, claiming they are in solidarity with Palestinians amid the Israel-Hamas war. In recent days, the rebels have sunk two ships, seized another, and killed four sailors. These attacks have disrupted global shipping routes, forcing companies to take longer, costlier paths around southern Africa.
As the situation continues, the attacks highlight the growing tension between the U.S. and the Houthis, with the world watching closely as the conflict impacts international shipping and security.
